Pedagogy in Mathematics – Download the position paper now!

QAMT works closely with the mathematics associations across each state and territory and with the national body, AAMT to promote excellence in mathematics education. AAMT have today released a white paper ‘Pedagogy in Mathematics’ that outlines the key elements of effective mathematics teaching.

The paper also provides practical guidance in the form of a framework for action to help school leaders, decision makers and teachers implement the recommendations.

‘Pedagogy in Mathematics’ advocates for a flexible approach, as differences in how students learn and engage with mathematics mean no single approach can meet all learners’ needs. Teachers should draw upon a rich collection of research-informed and high-quality strategies and be empowered to make informed professional judgements, selecting practices intentionally, tailored to specific contexts, learners and purposes. School leaders have an instrumental role in fostering cultures that equip and support teachers to make thoughtful and informed pedagogical choices in their mathematics teaching and learning.

The full paper can be accessed at: https://go.aamt.edu.au/2025Pedagogy

We are looking for enthusiastic educators of all levels of experience to join the QAMT executive

The Queensland Association of Mathematics Teachers (QAMT) is a not-for-profit Professional association that supports all teachers of Mathematics, pre-service, primary, secondary and tertiary and across all sectors in Queensland.
Excitedly, the QAMT is seeking enthusiastic educators to join the State level executive.
Executive members convene once a month (online) to discuss, and vote on matters relating to mathematics education in Queensland as well as plan for Mathematics Professional Learning events, and student problem-solving events. Executive members have opportunities to lead sub-committees in areas of interest and attend events as convenors, supervisors and supporters.
Currently, there is an opportunity for 2 new executive members, with support available through mentoring if requested. All executive members must be individual QAMT members.
Alternatively, you may be interested in two further options:
    1. As a member of a subcommittee with a specific event or purpose (meet as required). These sub-committees include: Publications, State Conference, Professional Development (primary and secondary), Student Activities, Advocacy and Marketing; and
    2. Ex-officio executive member – may attend meetings and join in discussion (does not need to attend all meetings), but does not have a vote. This is a great way to get to know what being on the executive is all about.
