National Summit on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mathematics Education
Leaders from the Australian Association of Mathematics Teachers (AAMT), the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mathematics Alliance (ATSIMA), the Queensland Association of Mathematics Teachers (QAMT) and various other state and territory mathematics associations gathered in person for a National Summit at the University of Adelaide on April 10-11, 2024.
The Summit aimed to engage the mathematics education community across Australia in addressing the educational needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in mathematics. As an initial step, all delegates collaborated to create a Commitment Statement, which was signed by everyone present. Each State and Territory then developed a draft action plan based on this Commitment Statement.
On the final day of the Summit, participants finalized the Commitment Statement below, affirming their dedication and accountability in pursuing positive outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander learners.
